SECUNDERABAD: With the state government allocating Rs 10,000 crore to Greater
Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (
GHMC) in the budget, the civic body’s urban
biodiversity wing plans to renovate 22 parks in
Secunderabad. These parks are located in
Seetaphalmandi, Tarnaka, Mettuguda, Addagutta and Boudha Nagar.
“Basic infrastructure such as walkways, cement or iron benches, playing area for children and washrooms will be provided in each park.
We will also develop lush green lawns inside the park and place ornamental plants. The project aims to revive lung spaces in Secunderabad,” deputy director of GHMC’s urban biodiversity wing Syed Maqsood Mohiuddin told TOI.
Speaking about the
expenditure, Mohiuddin said, “Renovation of each park will cost around Rs 3 lakh. Proposal are being prepared with details of expenditure. These will be sent to the GHMC commissioner in a couple of weeks for approval. Once the civic chief clears them, we will float tenders.”
The project is expected to bring relief for local residents who are often forced to go for their regular walks to parks in other localities. Renovating these spaces will also improve greenery and air quality.
Replying to concerns regarding encroachments, a GHMC official says the civic body has taken much care to build compound walls around the parks to protect them from land sharks.
“If all goes well, the works will be completed within three months,” Mohiuddin said.
