PATNA: A 27-year-old married woman was allegedly kidnapped by a youth and subsequently raped at a village under Kadirganj police outpost in Nawada district, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred when the woman had gone outside her home for some work on Wednesday evening. Finding the woman alone, the accused, Ramnath Chauhan (24), forcibly took her to a nearby field and outraged her modesty.

The accused left the spot only after threatening the rape survivor with dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone. The woman, however, narrated her ordeal to her mother in-law and husband after returning home. The matter was reported to the Kadirganj police outpost, which referred it to the women’s police station for further investigation.
Station house officer (SHO) of Kadirganj police station Devendra Prasad Singh said a complaint had been lodged with the women’s police station in connection with the incident.
SHO of women’s police station Babita Rani said, “I have visited the spot and inquired about the incident. The woman was sent to sadar hospital for medical examination,” she said, adding the accused was absconding.
On Thursday, the woman’s statement was recorded before a judicial officer under Section 164 of CrPC. “The medical report is awaited,” the SHO of women’s police station said. Meanwhile, the woman’s family has sought the intervention of senior police officers for speedy justice.
“The accused comes from an influential family,” the survivor’s husband told the investigating officer.
