CHENNAI: The
Kancheepuram police on Friday arrested absconding rowdy
Thanikachalam from his hideout at Kashi in Uttar Pradesh. Thanikachalam is the brother-in-law late
don Sridhar.
The police had been searching for Thanikachalam alias Thanika for the past one year. More than 20 cases, including murder and attempt of murder cases, are pending against him.
Thanikachalam was dodging the police by not using any electronic gadgets and bank accounts for the past one year.
Soon after the death of don Sridhar in October 2017, his gang members were divided into two groups. One group is led by Dinesh, who used to be Sridhar’s driver, and Thyagarajan alias Thyagu. The other side is headed by Thanikachalam.
On December 20 last year, two men in Dinesh’s gang were murdered in Tiruvallur by Thanikachalam's men. While Dinesh and Thyagu are now in prison and detained under Goondas Act, Thanikachalam was absconding.
A special police team that arrested Thanikachalam is likely to be bring him to Kancheepuram on Saturday.
