Dakshina Kannada district administration continues vigil against coronavirus

MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district administration continued its vigil against coronavirus with continued surveillance of international passengers at Mangaluru international airport on Friday.
The airport health office with assistance from doctors from medical colleges of the district screened 685 persons for symptoms of this disease. As on date, 54 persons are in quarantine in the district and none of them have completed their quarantine period.
Sindhu B Rupesh, deputy commissioner in the daily medical bulletin said the administration has sent six swabs for testing and received report on four of them, and all of them have turned out negative for coronavirus.
Passengers who have gone to China, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Iran and South Korea since February 15 and returning to India through MIA will compulsorily have to remain under medical quarantine, the DC said.
All anganwadis, nurseries, kindergarten and schools in the district have been directed to remain closed till further orders. In a related development, higher primary schools in the district have cancelled examinations for students from LKG up to 6th standard as per government orders and examinations for standard 7th to 10th will be held as scheduled. Mangalore University too has announced its decision to suspend conduct of classes for 15-days from March 14.

The administration on Thursday had already directed all private medical practitioners to collect travel details of people who come to them for treatment. The physicians had also been directed to report details of passengers who have travelled to any of the 115 nations officially covered under WHOs list of nations affected by coronavirus to the health authorities concerned. WHO has declared coronavirus as a pandemic and issued guidelines to combat it.
