AURANGABAD: Despite the threat of coronavirus outbreak looming large in several parts of the country, a Beed outfit has decided to go ahead with the body-building contest it has scheduled for Saturday. Athletes from across the state are set to participate in the contest.
The Beed District and Marathwada Body Building and Physique Sports Association has decided to hold the event at the Sambhaji Maharaj ground at Shivaji Chowk in Beed despite chief minister Uddhav Thackeray announcing the closure of swimming pools, gyms, theatres, auditoriums in several cities across the state on Friday.
A bike stunt show has also been lined up to attract more youngsters.
Sources in the body building association said that general secretary of the Indian Body Builders Federation, Chetan Pathare, had recently issued a communication to abstain from organizing tournaments.
Authorities in Beed police said that they could not stop people from organising such events unless the district administration imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, Beed district collector Rahul Rekhawar on Friday imposed the Disaster Management Act, 2005. With this act, departments like the police, civic body, food and drug administration and health have been put on alert for responding to any emergency as per the prescribed standard operating procedure prescribed in the law.
