One caught with 7 pistols, 14 magazines at PDDU Junction in UP's Chandauli
VARANASI: The government railway police (GRP) Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction in Chandauli district caught one Manish Pandey with seven pistols and 14 magazines at platform 3 on Saturday. His two accomplices managed to escape.
When GRP personnel caught him, Pandey tried to pressurise them by posing him a video journalist by showing an identity card.
Inspector GRP PDDU junction RK Singh said that he along with his colleagues was busy in regular checking of the platforms when Pandey was noticed with two others at platform-3.
On seeing cops they all tried to escape. However, Singh and his team managed to nab Pandey. When his bag was checked as many as seven pistols and 14 magazines were found in it.
Singh said that during initial investigation Pandey divulged to had procured the pistols from Sultanganj in Bihar to deliver it in Prayagraj. Pandey, a native of Katuapura locality in Varanasi, also tried to pressurise the GRP personnel by showing them an identity card of `Press’ and posed him a cameraman in some news portal. However, the cops took him to GRP station.
During further investigation of GRP it came to light that Pandey has a criminal history sheet with Varanasi police where six criminal cases including two of murder and two of murder attempt with Chetganj, Jaitpura, Sigra and Kotwali police stations.
On February 17 the GRP PDDU junction had also caught two carriers of arms smuggling gang and recovered 24 pistols and 48 magazines. Before it the GRP PDDU junction had made recoveries of 69 pistols by arresting arms smugglers in 11 cases between 2017 and 2019.
