MYSURU: A woman who travelled for over 3,200 km from Davanagere to Mahisasan in Karimganj district of Assam three months ago after boarding a wrong train has now been rescued by the Border Security Force (BSF) securing the Indo-Bangla border.
On Saturday, she was reunited with her family members from Davanagere. The BSF paid the flight ticket to the woman's brother to reach Mahisasan and arranged return ticket till Davanagere.
JC Nayak, DIG, BSF, Silchar, Assam informed that the woman was rescued when she was wondering in the border area.
"She got into a wrong train and eventually reached Mahisasan. Our soldiers rescued her and now reunited her with her family," he said.
It can be recalled that in October 2018, in a similar rescue operation, the BSF team led by JC Nayak had helped a woman from Hassan to reunite with her family.
"On March 12, while on surveillance duty, a BSF intelligence officer saw a lady roaming at Mahisasan Railway Station close to Indo Bangladesh border. On query, it was found that she is from a South Indian state. A BSF constable from Karnataka talked to her and came to know that her name is Kallamma B and she is 40-years-old. She also informed that she is the resident of Banali village in Davanagere," said Nayak.
"She had the mobile number of her brother Kumarachari," said Nayak.
From the mobile that she had with her, BSF contacted her brother Kumarachari to inform that his sister is missing from home for last three-four months.
"She had boarded the wrong train. The local police were informed. SHO Nilambazar police station district in Karimganj, suggested keeping the woman with an NGO called Ujjawala Home, at Nilambazar. Accordingly, she was handed over to Ujjawala Home. On Saturday her brother Kumarachari arrived at Bn HQ 7 Bn BSF Maizdih camp. Thereafter, BSF along with Kumarachari visited Ujjawala Home and handed over the woman to her brother through BSF. "This is the second time that highly alert BSF troops have rescued missing women. Last year also the same battalion had rescued a lady from Hassan in Karnataka," explained Nayak. Kallamma's brother Kumarachari thanked BSF for reuniting his sister with the family. "She is married. She is missing for the last three months. Now BSF helped us to trace her. We are grateful to BSF," said Kumarachari, a carpenter by profession
