PATNA: In a daring incident, three armed criminals shot dead a young garment shop owner and critically injured his father in the shop located at Barauni Chowk under the Phulwaria police station area in Begusarai district on Sunday evening. The injured, Bhushan Prasad Sah (45), has been admitted to the sadar hospital for treatment.
Taking a strong exception to the rising incidents of heinous crime in recent times, Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar has put the station house officer (SHO) of Phulwaria police station, Jyoti Kumar, under suspension and recommended departmental proceedings against him for negligence of duty.

The incident took place around 5.30 pm when the father-son duo was sitting in their shop. Three criminals riding a motorbike reached the shop and opened fire causing grievous injuries to them. While the son, Saurabh Kumar (30), died on the spot, Sah was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
The firing led to closure of shops in the market in panic. On getting information, a police team led by Phulwaria police station SHO Jyoti Kumar, rushed to the site of occurrence and inquired about the incident. However, the assailants had escaped from the spot by the time police arrived there.
Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar didn’t rule out demand of extortion as the reason behind the incident. “Police have been informed that extortion was demanded from the victims but they did not inform the local police. We have taken the matter seriously and will crack the case at the earliest,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, Teghara sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ashish Anand said police have got some clues in the case. “Raids are on to nab the culprits,” he added.
