SECUNDERABAD: For the first time since in was founded 142 years ago, the Secunderabad Club has closed its gates for patrons. The elite club, which sees anywhere between 600 and 700 members avail of its services every day, will remain closed from March 16 to 21 after government orders in the wake of coronavirus.

“We have communicated this to all the members of the club,” sources told TOI.

Spread across 22 acres, the Secunderabad Club has a 5-star accommodation that includes heritage suites, and is popular among foreign tourists.
However, from Monday, the club’s three main entries are sporting signboards which read ‘club closed’. The club management has already cancelled room reservations of nearly 100 foreigners following the government notification.
The club has large food courts that provides a multitude of cuisines ranging from continental to Mughal, Chinese to Italian, besides Indian food. “Of Course, the Club will sure lose revenue, but keeping in the situation, we have no other option to shut it,” said a senior member.
The management has intensified measures to clean its premises is taking all protective measures on the Club premise to keep clean by removing of garbage and unwanted vegetation and waste material, in view of Corona Virus. In fact, for the first time, the Club has remained closed in the span of 142-year of Club history.
