PATNA: A 12-year-old girl is struggling for her life at the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) after being raped by a 15-year-old boy at a village under Kanti police station area in Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday. Police said the accused, who is also a minor, is absconding after the incident.
The incident took place when the victim had gone to an agricultural field outside her native village for grazing her goats.
The accused, stated to be her neighbour, was already there for grazing his goats. Taking advantage of the girl being alone, the boy raped her. As she fell unconscious after the crime, the accused escaped from the spot.
Some local residents, however, spotted the girl bleeding profusely. They immediately admitted her to the primary health centre at Kanti from where she was later referred to the SKMCH for treatment. The doctors attending to the survivor said that her condition deteriorated due to excess bleeding and rupture in private parts.
Muzaffarpur DSP (West) Krishna Murari Prasad said that the swab of the survivor has been collected and sent for medical test. Women’s police station SHO Abha Rani along with another woman police officer recorded the survivor’s statement in the hospital and subsequently lodged an FIR against the accused. The DSP said that the accused, who is also stated to be a minor, escaped soon after the news about the incident spread in the area. Police have detained some close relatives of the accused to exert pressure on him to surrender before the police.
A para-medical staff, who first attended to the girl at the Kanti PMC, said the girl had received grievous injuries and signs of protest were evident on her body. She was referred to SKMCH as her condition was critical.
An investigating officer said that the girl was operated upon at the SKMCH late in the evening. “She is under observation by a team of doctors,” a senior official of the SKMCH said..
In another incident, Saran police on Tuesday arrested one Shiv Sharan Mahto for his involvement in the gang-rape of a Class VIII student under the Bheldi police station area in neighbouring Saran district. Bheldi police station SHO Vikas Kumar said the girl was gang-raped when she had gone to Raipura Bazar on March 5.
Another accused, Ajay Mahto, a resident of Fatehpur village under the Majhi police station of the district, is still at large. “Raids are on to nab him,” the SHO added.
