Dam filled with Narmada water
Rajkot: Narmada water has started flowing into Aji-1 dam from Wednesday. Responding to the Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) request last week, the state government released the water under SAUNI (Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation) scheme to solve the city’s water shortage.
The RMC wanted the water to provide uninterrupted 20-minute water supply to the citizens every day.
According to a statement issued by the Rajkot Mayor Bina Acharya the state government will give 600 mcft water in Aji-1 dam in the coming days.
The current level in Aji-1 is 287 mcft water which will last till March 31.
The irrigation department will pour 35-40 mcft water in Aji-1 dam every day and it is expected that in the next 20 days the dam will be full with 600 mcft water. The RMC takes 60 percent water of its daily requirement from the Aji-1 dam.
The irrigation department will pour 300 mcft water in Nyari-1 dam after Aji-1. The water in Nyari-1 dam will last till the end of the April. The city requires 280 MLD water per day and the demand is expected to increase in peak summer.
