IIT-BHU students asked to vacate hostels by March 21
Varanasi: The Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) has directed all the students to vacate the hostels by March 21 evening and return to their homes in view of safety from coronavirus. The mess facility in the hostels would be also stopped from March 21 evening.
Until then the IIT-BHU administration has asked the students to remain confined to their hostel rooms and avoid gatherings for social distancing.
Meanwhile, all the classes remained suspended on the campus.
A meeting of the task force, constituted for prevention of coronavirus (Covid-19) was chaired by director of the institute Prof Pramod Kumar Jain on Tuesday. Decisions taken during the meeting included closure of cafeteria and coffee shops on the campus and to ask the students residing on the campus to vacate the hostels and return to their homes for safety concern.
Students, who have gone to their homes, have been asked to not return to the hostel until further communication in this regard, said the institute administration. All employees and students have been advised to avoid mass gathering in the mess, library, cafeteria, T-stall, other food stalls and public places. In addition, research students/ M Tech students have been asked to continue their research work by staying in contact with their supervisor via email so that research work does not suffer.
Meanwhile, the BHU administration, which has already suspended all the classes till March 31, has also asked the hostel inmates to vacate the rooms by March 31, as mess service would be stopped.
Uday Pratap College has also suspended all the classes and postponed all its entrance examinations till further orders. Principal of the college Sangeeta Kumar said that the fresh dates of examinations would be announced through college website.
