Varanasi's ghats, Hampi's attractions & Goa's iconic churches: Destinations which are every photographer's paradise

VARANASI: Varanasi, home to the Ganges, has many celebrated ghats. Over time, these ghats have earned a spot in history. Shots of puja ceremonies have attracted the likes of international tourists. Dashashwamedha, Manikarnika and Harishchandra are some of the oldest ghats. Munshi Ghat – also known as Darbhanga Ghat – is one of the most photogenic ghats in Varanasi. Munshi Ghat is an extension of the Darabhanga Ghat and is flanked by an imposing palace built in the early 1900s by the royal family of Bihar.

HAMPI: The World Heritage Site of Hampi, located near Hospet town, Karnataka enthrals many seasoned photographers. Among the attractions of Hampi are beautiful temples, ruins of palaces, remains of aquatic structures, ancient market streets, bastions, royal platforms and treasury buildings. Whether it is panoramic shots, street shots, portraits, sunsets or sunrises, Hampi’s architectural finesse articulated through the stately pillars, magnificent pavilions and a great wealth of traditional depictions allows ample opportunities to explore and capture images.

THANJAVUR: Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, is a city that boasts of almost a hundred temples including the monumental Brihadeshwari Temple, built entirely from granite. Thanjavur along with Mamallapuram, Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Darasuram and Madurai is also a famed temple trail.

GUNTUR CALLING: With growing awareness around handloom and indigenous weaves, a textile trail is perfect to capture the colourful story of Indian craftsmanship. The warm locals are more than willing to show the process of the cloth dyeing and printing in their workshops-cum-homes in Andhra Pradesh.

GOA: Goa’s iconic churches make for a splendid canvas but it is the pristine beaches that are true winners. Head to Coco Beach, from Aguada-Siolim road. The many colourful boats lining up the waters make for a postcard worthy still.
