LUCKNOW: As India reported its fourth coronavirus death on Thursday, the Bahraich district administration along with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) sieved tourists at the two checkposts in Rupaidiha, bordering Nepal, to completely block entry of foreign nationals into the country.
Two French tourists and a South African national who were trying to sneak in were sent back to Nepal. A team of 25 SSB jawans and 20 police personnel, including women constables, have been deployed at these checkposts to strictly enforce the restrictions.

Bahraich district magistrate Shambhu Kumar told TOI that 10 doctors were also camping at Rupaidiha and screening every individual entering via Nepal.
“Entry of all foreign nationals has been barred till further orders (from the ministries of home and external affairs). Only the Nepalese who come to sell/purchase products at/from markets in India are being allowed in after thorough medical check-up,” Kumar said.
Each checkpost has two ambulances on standby to rush individuals found showing symptoms of Covid-19 infection to isolation units. Police have been asked to create awareness to also restrain movement of Indian nationals visiting or planning to visit Nepal, the DM added.
An assistant commandant with SSB, who did not wish to be named, said the Indian border with Nepal opens at 6am and closes at 9pm.
“As per protocol, doctors are screening the Nepalese and we are frisking them,” the commandant added.

On an average, 50 foreign nationals visit India via Rupaidiha on Nepal border every month. “Most are from European countries who come after visiting China. They are all being sent back to Nepal,” the assistant commandant added.
On March 13, the Union ministry of home affairs had restricted entry of foreign nationals via the Nepal-Sonauli border in Maharajganj. The order had stated that only Indian nationals and Nepalese were to be allowed.
