Coronavirus cases reported in Europe pass 100,000
- The number of cases of the new coronavirus reported in Europe has surpassed 100,000, according to an AFP tally at 1700 GMT on Thursday.
- Europe has at least 100,470 recorded infections, including 4,752 deaths, overtaking Asia with 94,253 cases and 3,417 deaths.
- This number of diagnosed cases reflects only a fraction of the actual number of infections as many countries test only those with the most severe symptoms.
3 fresh cases of COVID-19 in Telangana; number climbs to 16
- With three fresh cases reported on Thursday, the number of people found positive for COVID-19 in Telangana rose to 16.
- Of the three, two had arrived in Hyderabad from London, while the third came from Dubai.
- The total number of cases were initially put at 14 by the state government.

- With two new positive cases, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) jumped to 18
- Dasksha Shah, deputy director of BMC's health services, said a 22-year-old woman from T-ward in Mumbai tested positive for COVID-19
- Along with a 47-year-old woman from Ulhasnagar in adjoining Thane district.
- "All their close contacts will be traced and will be tested for coronavirus,"
US coronavirus cases now over 10,000, more than 150 dead: tracker
- A tracker maintained by Johns Hopkins University showed on Thursday.
- This makes the US sixth on the overall list behind China, Italy, Iran, Spain and Germany, and ahead of France and South Korea.
- Globally, there have been 229,390 cases confirmed and 9,325 deaths, the tracker said.

Italy overtakes China's coronavirus death toll
- Italy on Thursday overtook China's coronavirus death toll, with 427 new fatalities taking its total since the first case was registered in February to 3,405.
- China has officially reported 3,245 deaths since registering the first infection at the end of last year.

- No positive case of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) has been reported so far in Madhya Pradesh
- Bus services from the capital city to Rajasthan and Maharashtra will be suspended from March 21 to prevent spread
- So far, swab samples of 43 persons were sent for coronavirus testing, said a health department officer.
- Of these, reports of 29 persons came out negative, while test details of the remaining 14 are awaited.
- The MP government has already ordered closure of schools, cinema halls, museums and other establishment.

- The Trinamool Congress on Thursday postponed its new public outreach campaign "Banglar Gorbo Mamata" (Bengal's pride Mamata).
- The TMC leadership in a tweet announced the decision to defer the programme, which was announced by party supremo and West Bengal CM.
- "In view of the #COVID19, the party has decided to postpone the field outreach activities of the @BanglarGorboMB (BGM) Campaign until further communication.
Italy braces for long lockdown as toll nears China's
- Italy braced on Thursday for an extended lockdown that could see the economy suffer its biggest shock since World War II.
- The country's toll from the novel coronavirus reached 2,978 after it recorded 475 new deaths on Wednesday -- the highest official one-day figure in the world.
- China reported no new deaths for the first time on Thursday and Italy was on course to overtake its 3,245 fatalities later in the day.
- COVID-19 infections are yet to plateau despite the Italian government's best efforts.
Gujarat government cancels recruitment exams
- Gujarat decided to cancel all recruitment exams scheduled to be held till March 31 and suspend state bus services to Maharashtra.
- Now, these tests will be conducted after April 20, said a government release.
- Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, along with his deputy Nitin Patel, chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness of the state machinery to counter the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

All ships coming from 14 COVID- 19 affected countries will be quarantined for 14 days as a precautionary measure before they are allowed to enter the dock systems of the Kolkata Port Trust, an official said here on Thursday.
U.N. chief warns global recession due to coronavirus 'a near certainty'
- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Thursday that a global recession "is a near certainty"
- Current national responses to the the coronavirus pandemic "will not address the global scale and complexity of the crisis."
- "This is a moment that demands coordinated, decisive, and innovative policy action from the world's leading economies," Guterres told reporters
- "A global recession – perhaps of record dimensions – is a near certainty," he said.
No official meetings in Maharashtra till coronavirus curbed
- The Maharashtra government on Thursday decided to temporarily stop holding official meetings in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
- A Government Resolution (GR) issued here said if at all an urgent meeting is to be called, it should be ensured that sitting arrangement is made in such a way that officers and other staff members are at a safe distance fromeach other.

- Four more persons have tested positive for the coronavirus affliction.

Traders across the country are likely to observe Janata Curfew on Sunday and keep their establishments shut in response to a call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said traders' body CAIT.

The government on Thursday banned export of all ventilators, surgical/disposable masks and textile raw material used for making masks with immediate effect in wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
"The export of all ventilators, surgical/disposable masks only, and textile raw material for masks and coveralls only...has been prohibited, with immediate effect," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

Timings of Delhi government's free disinfection drive for vehicles extended
- The Delhi government has decided to conduct its free coronavirus disinfection drive for public service vehicles the "entire day".
- Earlier, the drive was being carried out in two shifts -- 10am to 12pm and 4.30pm to 6.30pm -- at all DTC and cluster depots.
- Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said, "The disinfection drive has received an overwhelming response due to which we have decided to extend it for the entire day. Our motive is to disinfect as many vehicles as possible."
- The Delhi government has advised the owners or operators of public service vehicles to get their vehicles disinfected on a daily basis. However, it is not mandatory for all.

A few students arrived from Bangladesh at Srinagar airport today. They were to be quarantined as a precautionary measure but they protested, broke windows of Srinagar airport. Police have taken cognizance of the incident. Students were later sent for quarantine.

- The FRRO office, situated at the police's Special Branch Building on Badruddin Tayyabji Marg, usually witnesses a heavy footfall of people.
