ICSE, CBSE cancel papers, but SSC exam to continue
Pune/Mumbai: The state education department has clarified that SSC exams will not be postponed and students will appear for the remaining two papers on Friday and Monday.
“There is no plan to postpone the SSC board examination as only two papers remain... it will take place as per the timetable,” state education minister Varsha Gaikwad said.
Paper I of social sciences, titled history and political science, is scheduled on Saturday while geography, the social sciences paper II is on March 23.
Both papers are scheduled from 11am to 1pm.
Parents and their wards who are currently appearing for the secondary school certificate (SSC, std X examination have been worried about the last two papers after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian school Certification Examination (ICSE) postponed all the ongoing board exams till March 31.
Over 16 lakh students from Maharashtra are appearing for this exam. The state board had set up helpline numbers and counseling numbers which kept ringing on Thursday after the decision made by the two national boards.
Parag Joshi, a parent of an SSC student who is undergoing the exam said, “There was tremendous confusion on Thursday on the two remaining papers. Also, WhatsApp groups of parents are abuzz with discussions about what was going to happen.”
Sujata Parekh, mother of a student taking the exam, said, “We have to take the risk of sending our children to a full class taking an exam.”
