Yavatmal cops resolve mystery of missing girl
Yavatmal: With the arrest of 40-year-old Gajanan Bhurke, Yavatmal LCB sleuths finally resolved the mystery that shrouded the missing minor girl of Mulava village in Pophali police station on Friday. The police exhumed the decomposed body of the deceased from the jungle near Patharwadi village.
According to LCB chief Pradeep Siraskar, Pophali police received a complaint from the father of the minor girl (8) saying that his daughter went missing from her school on March 12.
Her bicycle was at the school. SP M Rajkumar set up a special task force under the leadership of APIs Nilesh Shelke and Shreekant Jindamwar who started the investigation with the help of the Pophali PSO Kailash Bhagat.
The youths of the village have too extended their support to the police. An eye witnesses told the cops that a man took the girl on his bike. Police saw the CCTV footage from which it was confirmed that Gajanan Bhurke was the man. They took Gajanan into custody and during interrogation he confessed to have lured the girl and taken her to a nearby jungle where he committed the heinous crime. He then strangulated the little girl and buried the body in the jungle.
Gajanan is the father of a friend of the deceased girl and took undue advantage of her acquaintance with his daughter. Police took Gajanan to the spot and exhumed the body with the help of doctors from GMCH, Yavatmal, who conducted the post mortem.
The accused has been remanded to police custody by the court. PSO Bhagat is investigating the case.
