Coronavirus: Maruti Suzuki halts production at Haryana plants

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Sunday said that it has suspended operations at its manufacturing facilities in Haryana due to the coronavirus outbreak. In a regulatory filing, the company said that it has shut production and office operations at its facilities in Gurugram and Manesar, Haryana with immediate effect till further notice.

NEW DELHI: The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Sunday said that it has suspended operations at its manufacturing facilities in Haryana due to the coronavirus outbreak.
In a regulatory filing, the company said that it has shut production and office operations at its facilities in Gurugram and Manesar, Haryana with immediate effect till further notice.

"Maruti has been taking all recommended precautions in its operations against the spread of COVID-19, which includes sanitization and hygiene, temperature checks, maximising video-conferencing and minimising contact, closing employee travel, health and distancing advisories to employees and following all government directions on the subject," the company said.

The duration of this shutdown will depend upon government policy.
"As a next step, the government policy now requires closure of production and accordingly the company has taken a decision on production closure," it added.
Maruti's research and development (R&D) centre at Rohtak will also remain closed.
The company's two plants in Haryana churn out 15.5 lakh vehicles per annum.
