GAYA: As the number of coronavirus suspects grew in the district, OPD service has been suspended and in emergency situations, those needing immediate medical assistance have been advised to dial the dedicated number released by the district administration. Four teams have been formed to identify Covid-19 suspects and those with questionable travel history .
According to DM Abhishek Singh, the practice of media briefing is being discontinued and media persons would be provided digital updates
Confirming the admission of suspects, the DM said that those showing symptoms of the deadly virus have been kept in the isolation ward and those with a travel history have been put in the quarantine centres established for the purpose.
More quarantine centres will be established , said the DM.
According to Dr NK Paswan, nodal officer of the anti Covid-19 operations, samples collected from the isolation ward inmates are being sent for lab testing. Asked about the two air passengers coming from Thailand, Dr Paswan said that the test report was awaited and follow up action would be taken after the receipt of the report. Till date, nearly two dozen samples have been sent for examination in the Virological lab and all the reports received so far have been negative. The air passengers are stable.
Meanwhile, concerned over large scale violation of lockdown provisions, the Gaya police has warned violators against punitive action including registration of criminal cases. Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra personally led the campaign for the effective implementation of the lockdown. Because of it being the first day, the violators have been let off with warnings. He has directed field officials to be unsparing from Tuesday onwards.
According to the SSP, barricades are being put up at several points in the town to ensure movement of only the exempted category of road users. Bikers and motorists would be penalised under the Motor Vehicle Act too, said the SSP.
Meanwhile heavy rush was seen on Monday in the vegetable/fruit market and provision stores. Reports of panic buying of essential items have been received from several parts of the district. District magistrate Abhishek Singh has appealed to the people not to indulge in panic buying as supply chain of essential items would be maintained at all costs. Provision stores have been ordered to display price list. Price of vegetables too would be displayed at prominent points in the town.
