JALPAIGURI: A senior citizen evaded rape by biting into two pieces her assailant’s tongue during the attack outside Jalpaiguri town on Sunday night.
Around 8.30pm, taking advantage of desolate streets during janata curfew, one Rockey Mohammad and a Chhotu Mohammad of the same locality raided the 65-year-old woman’s house in Paharpur. When the woman, who lived alone, resisted, she was thrashed by the duo.
Chhotu pinned her down while Rockey pounced on her. When Rockey tried to prevent her from shouting for help, the woman bit his tongue into two.
Amid the screams, Chhotu fled. Rockey was taken to a Jalpaiguri superspeciality hospital where doctors failed to sew his tongue back up as it was “too late”. Rockey was shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
Panchayat member Ranjit Roy said: “Both Rockey and Chhotu are known miscreants. They should be punished.”
Police are investigating but no FIR has been lodged yet.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
