GUWAHATI: Assam has stepped up surveillance as it waits the arrival of the last three trains on Tuesday carrying people from outside the state.
State health minister Himanta Sarma said, "After the three trains arrive on Tuesday, there will be no more trains coming in. Each of the passengers will be stamped for home quarantine with date and their movement will be continuously monitored.
The ASHA workers will be given the data of their locations to ensure that these people remain quarantined in their homes."
He added that anyone breaking the home quarantine period will be picked up by police. "It is also the duty of the society to keep a watch on the quarantined people. If anyone is seen violating the quarantine, the citizens should immediately inform the police," Sarma said.
NF Railway PRO N Bhattacharyya said that the three trains are the Avadh Assam Express from Lalgarh in Rajasthan and two special trains, one coming from Mangalore and the other from Pune.
"Seven trains from outside the state arrived in Guwahati on Monday. The last three trains are arriving on Tuesday. There will be no more trains coming in after that. These trains were on the run when the all trains were cancelled from Sunday," Northeast Frontier Railway PRO N Bhattacharyya said.
Regional Executive Director of Airport Authority of India (AAI) Sanjeev Jindal said that all passengers are being screened at LGBI Airport. He added that adequate arrangements have been made at the airport. He further stated that AAI would support the government of Assam for any assistance in transport sector.

State transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary directed the health officials to make arrangements to stamp all passengers arriving at airports and railway stations for mandatory home quarantine for two weeks, to avoid spread of the virus.
The health department stated that altogether 1,28,086 persons have been screened at different railway stations in the state while 32,706 passengers have been screened at airports of the state.
The department added that 8,676 travelers coming from coronavirus-affected countries have been identified. Out of them, 220 people have completed their observation period of 28 days and the remaining 8,439 are under home isolation.
