Jammu and Kashmir: Omar Abdullah released from detention after 8 months

Omar Abdullah was released after nearly 8 months of detention at his home in Jammu and Kashmir. He had been detained alongside hundreds of politicians in August 2019 when the central government had decided to abrogate Article 370 in the state and divide it into 2 separate union territories. The Supreme Court had asked the centre last week, based on Omar Abdullah’s sister’s petition for immediate release, whether it planned to free him.
