HUBBALLI: First
coronavirus positive case was detected in
Chitradurga on Tuesday, a-37-year old lady who came to
Bhimasamudra village in Chitradurga from
Guyana was tested positive for the novel infection.
According to Chitradurga District Health Department officials, lady and five others had returned to Bhimasamudra on March 20 from Guyana. The officials had asked them to remain in isolation, their throat swab samples were sent to National Institute of Virology in Bengaluru for confirmation for the virus and the reports arrived on Tuesday.
The officials said of six samples sent to the lab, the lady confirmed with the infection, three samples tested negative and two reports yet to arrive.
Five kilometres surrounding area where the coronavirus case was detected has been announced as the red zone by the administration, precautionary measures have been taken to contain the possible outbreak in the area, said officers.
They said they yet to trace down the primary and secondary contacts of the infected lady and ascertain the travel history as well. It is said that the lady is being treated at an isolation ward of a hospital in Davangere. The officers refused to reveal more information.
