PRAYAGRAJ: Owing to the bizarre delusion that
cow urine would keep the novel
coronavirus at bay, the demand for cow urine-based phenyl and
handwash is on the rise in the Sangam city as well as in many other parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Gaushala authorities in different parts of the state admitted the same.
Vivek Pandey, convener of Prayagraj-based gaushala said, “The demand for cow urine-based phenyl and handwash has increased up to 20 percent within a week and we are finding it difficult to arrange for raw materials.”
“The natural disinfectant made of cow urine called Gauashish Phenyl is more in demand in eastern UP,” he added.
He, however, said that the hand wash made of cow urine and other natural products (alcohol less) are not recommended by doctors or scientists and cannot fight against the deadly coronavirus.
“According to doctors, sanitizers with 60 per cent alcohol content are best to fight microbes,” said Pandey.
Convenor of Kanpur-based gaushala,
Abhishek Bajpayee, also admitted that sale of cow urine phenyl has picked up manifold in UP markets.
Bajpayee said, “Handwash and phenyl made of cow urine are available in volumes ranging from 20 ml to 50 ml and many firm believers of the medicinal properties of cow urine are picking them up.”
“Many chemist shops, hotels and offices have been ordering the cow urine handwash in Kanpur, Prayagraj and other eastern UP cities,” he added.
Strangely, demand for other cow urine products such as soaps and face packs has also witnessed a surge, despite the fact that none of them can help combat COVID-19.
