Tirupati: First coronavirus positive case reported in Chittoor district; 8th in Andhra Pradesh

TIRUPATI: A 25-year-old from Srikalahasti in Chittoor district, who returned recently from London, tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. This is the 8th positive COVID-19 case reported in the state of Andhra Pradesh and the first positive case reported in Chittoor district.
Confirming the development to TOI, Chittoor district medical and health officer Dr M Penchalaiah, said the 25 year old patient, who is a resident of Gopalapuram village in Yerpedu mandal of Srikalahasti constituency, returned back from London on March 19.
He flew into the Chennai airport from London and reached his hometown Srikalahasti by car.
On March 23, the youngster who reported illness and was exhibiting symptoms of coronavirus, was rushed to the SVRR government hospital in Tirupati and admitted to the isolation ward.
Doctors at the SVRR government hospital collected his samples and sent them to the veneral disease research laboratory at Sri Venkateswara institute of medical sciences in Tirupati on Tuesday morning.
The VDRL lab at SVIMS confirmed that the 25-year-old tested positive for COVID-19.
Chittoor district medical and health officer said that the district administration will thoroughly enquire to find out all those who came in contact with the 25-year-old after his return from London, and try to get them all under home quarantine first and get their samples tested as well to rule out COVID-19. ''We will also carry out a door-to-door survey in the vicinity of the patient's home at Srikalahasti'', asserted the DM&HO.
