Udupi Big Bazaar in soup for violating govt order
UDUPI: A complaint was lodged against retail chain Big Bazaar in Udupi on Tuesday for allegedly flouting government guidelines on containing the spread of Covid-19.
Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh, superintendent of police N Vishnuvardhan and team were on a surprise inspection when they discovered the Big Bazaar outlet was selling essential items at higher rates. There were over 25 staff working at the outlet and they were operating air conditioner despite the warning from the district authorities.
Further, the customers were allowed to enter the outlet without any precautionary measures, said the DC.
Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar on Tuesday lodged a complaint against the supermarket and a case was registered at Udupi City police station.
Malpe port to be shut
The DC visited Malpe Harbour on Tuesday and instructed the Malpe Fishermen’s Association to suspend all activities immediately. However, association president Krishna Suvarna urged the DC to give them some more time to wind up the business and sell the catch arriving on Tuesday evening. The DC gave them the time to wrap up business by Wednesday.
