Crackdown on violators in Bharuch
Surat: Police came down heavily on commuters and pedestrians for violating prohibitory and lockdown orders of the state government to contain spread of COVID-19 in Bharuch district on Tuesday.
At many places in Bharuch and Ankleshwar town, police made commuters to do sit-ups on roads, issued memos and resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse crowd. More than 150 vehicles were detained in Bharuch town and commuters were Issued regional transport office (RTO) memos.
Owners can claim their vehicles after RTO becomes functional after March 31.
Rajendrasinh Chudasama, SP, Bharuch, told TOI, “Policemen have been given free hand to take stern action against those violating prohibitory orders in the district. We are strictly implementing lockdown orders and people are not allowed to move out.”
Chudasama said, “People have not understood seriousness of COVID-19. We have shut down all vegetable markets, including APMC market, in Bharuch after residents thronged them to purchase vegetables and fruits.”
Sources said police forced closure of Tusidham Vegetable Market on Tuesday. In Ankleshwar town, police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
