ROHTAK: A doctor pursuing masters in anesthesia from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, took to the social media to seek protective gear for the medical staff working round-the-clock for the treatment of coronavirus (Covid-19) patients.
Dr Kamna Kakkar posed a question to the government in one of her tweets and urged people to become their voice and ask the policy makers to provide them protective gear.
In a 45-second video, she also demonstrated how doctors were made to wear masks and body equipment before handling Covid-19 patients.
She also made a case for seeking more beds in hospitals and appealed people not to lose their cool against doctors in a bid to address the prevalent issue of rising assault cases on medical fraternity. Her tweet was retweeted by top Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
The tweet tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, state health minister Anil Vij stated, "When they arrive, please send N-95 and gloves to my grave."
Dr Kakkar sought better facilities for doctors battling coronavirus said that the situation was avoidable and country should be more prepared to deal with the crises.
The tweet of the Rohtak doctor went viral and was retweeted 10,000 times and flooded with likes and messages.
On being contacted, she refused to speak to the media but remained firm on her comments posted on Twitter.
However, later in evening, the doctor apologised for "misinformation". She tweeted, "N95 are available in our institution and will be given to all thos in direct contact with Corona patient. There are plenty of masks -we just did not know which door to knock. ICMR guidelines have been rapidly changing." She also deleted her twitter account.
