SILCHAR: A 20-year-old man, who returned to Hailakandi from China and did not report his arrival at the nearest police station or health centre, has been apprehended and quarantined at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Sources said the youth is a medical student at an institute in China and returned home following the coronavirus outbreak.
The Hailakandi district administration has filed an FIR against him at Hailakandi Sadar Police Station under Section 188 of the IPC.
Hailakandi SP Pabindra Kumar Nath confirmed that man has been held and sent to quarantine at the Silchar hospital.
Departmental action will be taken to immediately suspension the man's father who is a government employee - a gaon panchayat secretary - for concealing information. Nath said the family members misled the magistrate and police personnel, telling them that the man would arrive after three days. However, on further inquiry it was found that he had already reached home.
Thereafter, a Rapid Response Team headed by Hailakandi circle officer Tridip Roy immediately swung into action and apprehended him. A Covid-19 notice was put up outside the house and the man's parents have been asked to stay in home quarantine.
