Udupi records first positive coronavirus case, Dakshina Kannada remains on five cases

MANGALURU: The number of coronavirus positive cases in Dakshina Kannada district as on March 25 remained unchanged at 5, even as neighbouring Udupi district recorded its first positive case. Udupi district health authorities identified the patient as a 34-year-old male, whose throat swab sample collected on Tuesday was identified as positive. The patient has been kept in the isolation facility at the designated isolation centre and is undergoing treatment.
In Dakshina Kannada, authorities screened 59 persons on the day and the total number screened thus far stood at 38,005.A total of 2771 persons are in home quarantine, 27 at ESI Hospital, DC Sindhu B Rupesh, said, adding 20 persons completed their 28-days home quarantine period. The authorities sent 10 samples for testing. Out of the 14 sample reports received on the day, none were positive. Seven people have been admitted for observation.
Asha workers as on date have visited 2,75,767 households in the district and created awareness among 11,21,244 people, she said, adding requested anyone who has returned from abroad recently to remain under home quarantine for the period specified. In adjoining Udupi, 11 were admitted for observation on Wednesday. In all, 150 people, including 145 are in home quarantine and rest in hospital quarantine, Udupi DC G Jagadeesha said.
In a related development, Sindhu set up 15 committees to help the district administration tackle various aspects related to handling of the global pandemic as declared by WHO. The primary among committees include contact tracing team with Binoy, special land acquisition officer, KIABD as the co-chairperson. The committees have been directed to discharge their duties diligently and carry out work assigned to them or face strict disciplinary action.
