A youth was killed while two other boys suffered injuries in an explosion in Sikathi Shahmohammadpur village under the limits of Mubarakpur police station in Azamgarh district on Wednesday afternoon.

VARANASI: A youth was killed while two other boys suffered injuries in an explosion in Sikathi Shahmohammadpur village under the limits of Mubarakpur police station in Azamgarh district on Wednesday afternoon. It is suspected that a crude bomb caused the explosion. The invesyigation is underway.
SP Azamgarh Triveni Singh said that the explosion occurred after the boys found an abandoned bag near a pond and tried to open it after taking inside a compound.
Police are investigating the matter after lodging a case against unidentified miscreants in this connection, he added.
In afternoon, some boys had gathered near the pond for bathing. In the meantime Arif (19), Julfikar (17) and Rehan (2) found a bag. The trio took the bag inside a compound in nearby area and tried to open it when the explosion took place, said the police.
While Arif died on the spot, Julfikar and Rehan suffered injuries. Locals reported the matter to Mubarakpur police and rushed the injured to local hospital. Bomb disposal squad and forensic experts have been sent to the spot, said Singh.
