LUCKNOW: Essential service providers, mostly health workers and chemists, were stopped by police as they do not have special passes issued by the administration on the third day of the lockdown on Wednesday. Such a scenario was witnessed in Indiranagar, SGPGI, Cantonment, Mahanagar, and Bazaarkhala.
“I was going to Dr RML Hospital but the police at Munshipuliya stopped me. When I showed them my IDcard they said it was not issued by the district administration,” said Ashish Mehrotra, a support staff.
Mehrotra added that he was required in the hospital as he had to assist doctors during a major surgery which was to be conducted urgently.”Similarly, in SGPGI area, Harsh Agarwal, a chemist, bringing some surgical items from Chowk, was stopped. “We were not issued any passes by the administration, But we form part of essential services and cannot be stopped. The issue will be taken up in the court once it opens,” he said.
In another case, a nurse employed with civil hospital in Hazratganj was stopped at Bazaarkhala.
“I was stopped at Bullaki Adda and asked to show pass. I showed my ID card but policemen did not budge,” said Nazia Khatoon (name changed). Similarly, an anaesthetist of a private hospital Vinod Sharma was stopped at cantonment by the police.
