CHENNAI: People bought booze worth 210 crore in six hours on Tuesday before the
Tasmac outlets shut.
About 5,300 shops across the state were open between noon and the 6pm lockdown deadline on Tuesday. The sale comes two days after the state-owned corporation sold liquor 220 crore on Saturday, a day ahead of the '
janata curfew'.
Now, Tasmac salesmen and supervisors are facing a challenge in depositing the collection in view of the countrywide lockdown.
According to Tasmac sources, an order was issued to deposit the money in banks on Thursday since Wednesday was a public holiday. While those in Chennai would be able to access banks, it is a pain for the people in remote places to reach the banks. They don't have security either.
Against this backdrop, the
Tamil Nadu Tasmac Workers Union affiliated to
AITUC has sought the intervention of the state home secretary in this regard.
