JAIPUR: A groom was publicly shamed for taking out his wedding procession in Sriganganagar district. He was made to hold a placard saying he is an enemy of the society and his picture was clicked and circulated on social media. Although no legal action was taken against the wedding party, the police claimed that awareness was still lacking among the locals, due to which they had to take such measures.
Kashyap Singh Raghave, SHO, Lalgarh said, “We stopped the wedding party, which had five people in a car and questioned them as to why they were organising this event amidst a lockdown.
The biggest problem that we are facing is that people themselves are reluctant to follow orders and expect police to take the necessary actions.”
The groom was in a car along with five other people and the cops did not arrest him since it was his wedding day, though made to pose him with a photograph which said — ‘I am an enemy of the society and will not sit at home despite being told. I will infect everyone and die myself as well.’
While the groom was allowed to attend his wedding, the official added, “The problem is controlling the people who are stepping outside despite the lockdown. We are trying our best by taking measures but the public is not concerned. Though we did not arrest the groom, it was a public message sent out to everyone to follow the law,” added the official. With the three-week lockdown, cops claim that they have a big task on their hands to calm down the wedding parties but are still not taking any action against them.
As Covid-19 takes a firm grip over India, the Central and state authorities are working in overdrive to try and curb the spread. As per latest government data, Covid-19 has affected over 562 people in the country.
The Indian Centre for Medical Research (ICMR) has maintained that the virus is still in phase 2 of transmission, which means there is no evidence of local transmission yet. As the cases climb, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a complete lockdown in the country for 21 days and the health ministry has said states would need to earmark hospitals to exclusively treat coronavirus patients.
