PRAYAGRAJ: Amid the nationwide lockdown, the door-to-door delivery system of essential commodities doesn’t seem to be functioning smoothly in the city.
A number of citizens claimed that they had no idea how the doorstrep delivery works, and were still visiting grocery stores and vegetable markets.
The district authorities, however, claimed that provisional stores have been permitted for home delivery.

Besides, malls with famous stores can also operate for home delivery only. These stores have been ordered by the administration to ensure proper sanitation and social distancing at their godowns.
Mutthiganj resident Ravi Kumar Kesarwani told TOI, “When we dialled the helpline number for supply of essential commodities, the ration officers at the control room asked us to visit the nearby market or call a store to deliver the supply.”
Civil Lines resident Vinay Mehrotra said, “It will be a relief if prominent stores start door-to-door delivery during the lockdown period. Amidst police deployment in all areas of the city, I made my way to the vegetable and grocery shops with much difficulty.”
SP Marg resident Pankaj Mehrotra said, “When I called on the helpline number, officials asked us to visit the nearest market, and claimed that there was no dearth of essential commodities.”
Meanwhile, a senior administrative official said, “Prominent stores in malls and provisional stores have been permitted for home deliveries.”
