Woman throws 3 kids in well, 2 die in UP's Sonbhadra

VARANASI: A woman fled Pindari village under the limits of Bijpur police station in Sonbhadra district after throwing her three children into a well on Wednesday night.
Two of them were killed while one was rescued by the villagers. SP Sonbhadra Ashish Srivastava said that police were searching for the woman after sending the bodies of killed children for postmortem. The girl, who survived, was given under the custody of her grandparents.
Around 11 pm, Devanti (30) knocked the doors of her neighbour Rampyare and informed that her two children had died after felling into the well while one was alive.
Before Rampyare could understand anything Devanti fled the scene. When Rampyare saw inside the well he noticed the cries of a child after which he raised an alarm.
A local youth entered the well with a help of a rope and rescued the girl- Anu (6)- after which bodies of her siblings- Anuj (3) and Dipanshu (1) were also taken out. Later, police reached the incident site. Anu informed police that Devanti had threw them all into the well.
During initial investigation by the police it came to light that Devanti’s husband Vijay Gond was employed in Chennai and he had not returned home for past 10 months. She along with her husband stayed with Vijay’s parents. Police raided the place where parents of Devanti lived, but she was also not found there, said police mentioning that reason behind the harsh step taken by Devanti could not become clear.
