Coronavirus in Kerala: Over one lakh people under observation, political leader tests positive in Idukki

The total number of people under observation in the state has crossed the one lakh mark with 19 more positive cases reporting on Thursday. The total number of positive cases reported in the state have now become 138 of which 126 people are at present in various hospitals.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The total number of people under observation in the state has crossed the one lakh mark with 19 more positive cases reporting on Thursday. The total number of positive cases reported in the state have now become 138 of which 126 people are at present in various hospitals.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan after the review meeting of the rapid response team here on Thursday said the total number of people under observation in the state are 1,02,003 of which 601 are admitted in the various designated isolation wards of different hospitals.

A former block panchayat president from Idukki has been tested positive of Covid-19. This has raised concern since he was in the list of the direct contacts of a positive person and he had contacts with several people which includes political leaders.

The first Covid-19 case was also reported from Wayanad districts. Of the 19 cases reported today, nine cases are from Kannur, three each from Kasargod and Malappuram, two in Thrissur and one each in Idukki and Wayanad. Of the 5342 samples sent for testing 3768 have been tested negative.
The chief minister said it has been decided to utilize the service of retired government doctors if needed for combating the Covid-19 cases. He said the private hospitals have pledged their support for providing the hospitals to house the people under quarantine.
It has also been decided to create a Sannadha Youth Wing, a team of young volunteers from the panchayat level to help the people who are in need of food and other essential commodities. The community kitchens from panchayat level to municipalities will begin work from Friday, said the chief minister.
