Wardha begins spraying public places with disinfectant
The effort by the municipal body was praised by citizens
Nagpur: Wardha civic body has come up with a unique method to check the spread Covid-19. It has started spraying disinfectant sodium hypochlorite using spraying vehicles used for agricultural purposes at all public places in the city to fight the virus.
The spraying of the disinfectant across the town by the Wardha Municipal Council has also been praised by the citizens.
Wardha collector Vivek Bhimanwar said, “We had received guidelines that spraying sodium hypochlorite helps in fighting the virus.
We also discussed it with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials who had also started the same drive for public places.”
Wardha civic chief Pradip Jagtap told TOI all public places in city were being sprayed with the disinfectant. “Sodium hypochlorite is mostly used in hospitals for cleaning. It is a disinfectant. Currently a private company has given us three spraying vehicles as a courtesy. We are using them to spray the disinfectant at market places, bus stops, railway stations and other public places,” he said.
“Wardha city has around 1.10 lakh citizens so public places are a priority. We will continue the drive for some time now. It is not yet clear how much disinfectant we will need to spray the whole city as we have just started,” added Jagtap.
Currently Wardha has not seen any Covid-19 positive case but the extra precaution by the administration has been praised by the citizens.
Shridhar Deshmukh, a businessman, said currently the administration was spraying disinfectant at public places but later zone wise spraying will also happen. “It is a good initiative by the administration as citizens are scared due to the outbreak,” he said.

Pratik Saraf, another businessman, said, “The spraying will have a good impact on the health of citizens. As sanitization is very essential, spraying disinfectant will also help citizens remain fit during these times.”
Meanwhile, videos and photos of the vehicle spraying disinfectant on roads of Wardha went viral on social media on Thursday. Some Nagpur citizens suggested that such spraying must happen in the city too.
Leena Budhe, a civic activist, said, “It is high time NMC started spraying disinfectants and fogging in city. They must target areas where hygiene is not very good. Sanitization must be the top priority to fight coronavirus.”
