BENGALURU: A 56-year-old head constable attached with the III battalion of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his selfloading service rifle on Thursday morning at Madiwala.
Police said Huchche Gowda, who was from Nagamangala in Mandya district and a resident of KSRP quarters in Madiwala, was on night duty on Wednesday guarding the state armoury in the area.

Around 10.30pm, Gowda complained about a nose injury and rushed to a nearby private hospital. He returned by 12.10am and his superiors asked him to go home. But Gowda told his seniors that he would take rest at the armoury itself.
“Around 4.30am, Gowda shot himself in his neck. His colleagues heard the rifle shot and rushed to the spot. They found Gowda lying dead in a pool of blood. We have taken up a case of unnatural death and probe is on to find out the reason behind the extreme step,” said police.
Srinath Joshi, deputy commissioner of police (southeast), said cops will question Gowda’s colleagues and family members to ascertain the exact reason behind his death.
Engineer who attacked policemen shot at
In an early-morning encounter, cops shot at and injured a 25-year-old mechanical engineer when he attacked police personnel in Yeshwantpur on Thursday.
The engineer, Tajuddin Moyuddin, and his friend Kutubuddin, 23, had been arrested for attacking policemen when the latter stopped them for performing motorbike stunts near Bhoopasandra in Gangenahalli, north Bengaluru. The duo had been roaming the streets in violation of the ban orders and lockdown restrictions imposed in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak and performing wheelies on the road when they were stopped by policemen.
Tajuddin is from Vijayapura and works with a call centre in a software park, while Kutubuddin is a second-year BCom student in a private college. Both are residents of Bhoopasandra.
Around 6.30am on Thursday, Tajuddin was taken to Bhoopasandra for a spot mahajar when he escaped. Two police officials chased him and caught hold of him. But Tajuddin attacked them, and in self defence, cops shot at his left knee. He was later rushed to hospital and his condition is said to be stable. Police said they have registered another case against Tajuddin under relevant sections and a probe is on.
