*Update at 6.47pm: Today food items have been distributed by different teams of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate to more than 600 families. Distribution is still going on.

* Some staples like edible oil, milk, pulses, atta, maida, bread, egg, chicken have gone out of stock.

* There was a sharp rise in prices of fish, chicken and egg. Chicken initially plunged to Rs 80/kg thanks to a massive drop in demand due to rumours of bird infection. On Friday, it was sold at Rs 180-250.
* Supply was erratic. In the north, central and eastern Kolkata, chicken supply was steady, in the south, the western part of the city and in Howrah, the gap between demand and supply was yawning.

* Egg also saw a dramatic rise from Rs 3.90 a piece to Rs 6-7 apiece. Kolkata is overwhelmingly dependent on Andhra for its consumption of 1 crore eggs a day. The fish price has not by Rs 100 a kg in most of the varieties.
* The market sees a shortage of supply, thanks to a complete ban on interstate truck movement imposed a couple of days before the official lockdown in the state.
* There is adequate supply of potato, onion, some regular vegetables like parwal (pointed gourd), jhinge (ridged gourd), pumpkin, brinjal (eggplant).
* 2.44pm: KMC reserves burial grounds, cremation centre for Covid-19 victims
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has reserved two burial grounds and a crematorium for last rites of coronavirus victims in the city, days after a controversy erupted over the cremation of West Bengal's first Covid-19 casualty. According to the mayor in council (MIC), health, Atin Ghosh, KMC has designated a two-furnace cremation centre at Dhapa grounds, a burial ground at Baghmari for Muslims and another at Topsia for Hindus. * 1.23pm: Swathes of West Bengal wore a deserted look on Friday as people preferred to stay indoors on the third day of the 21-day nationwide lockdown imposed to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
* 1.22pm Private and public vehicle operators largely stayed off the roads, while business establishments, barring those dealing with essential commodities, remained shut.
* 1.21pm: Only a few people were seen shoving each at market places, even as many adhered to the social distancing rules while buying items at groceries.

* 1. 18pm: Major railway stations, bus terminals and thoroughfares were eerily silent, with only police vehicles and those associated with emergency services seen passing by.

* Release of at least two Bengali films have been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, industry sources said. Late actor Tapas Paul's last film Banshi, co-directed by Tuhin Sinha and Rahul, was scheduled to be released on Friday but has been postponed till the theatres reopen.
* West Bengal first private lab gets nod for coronaviurs test
Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals Kolkata (AGHK) is all set to start testing Covid-19 samples soon. So far, the hospital’s laboratory is the only private laboratory in the state that that has got the nod from ICMR (Indian Council for Medical Research) to run a test on swab samples of Covid-19 suspected patients. The hospital is waiting for kits to arrive to take in samples.
* From bikers to barbers, 2,000 held for breaking lockdown in city
Kolkata Police has arrested 2,327 persons so far, including 1,874 in first 48 hours of lockdown. From people roaming with friends around Rabindra Sarobar to travelling from Behala and Mukundapur to catch up with friends at Jadavpur, police have found several instances of people violating the lockdown on flimsiest grounds. Most of the arrests involve groups of people.
