Enough stocks at Ghazipur mandi, says east Delhi DM

NEW DELHI: Following rumours of scarcity of vegetables and overcharging by retailers, east Delhi district magistrate Arun Kumar Mishra said the buffer stock of kitchen staples, potato and onion, was available for at least a month at Ghazipur mandi.
Mishra claimed that green vegetables were arriving from the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh in enough quantity and without any obstruction.“Consumers will continue to get the supply without any hassle throughout the lockdown period,” he said.
The DM said that regular meetings were being held with shopkeepers and wholesalers dealing in essential commodities to ensure there is no shortage of milk, food items and medicines. “We had separate meetings with chemist association and wholesalers at Kondli. They’ve been told to mark their vehicles that are carrying essential items to ensure smooth passage,” Mishra added.
The East DM also said that directions had been issued to police and district officials to not stop anyone carrying essential commodities. “Even if they don’t have the passes being issued by government, we are not stopping them. But we also tell them to get the passes made,” he said. On Thursday, East district had made around 2,800 such passes.
