BERHAMPUR: In view of the coronavirus outbreak, the Gajapati district authorities will set up a temporary health centre along with an isolation ward in each panchayat.
School buildings with electricity, water supply and toilet facilities will be turned into such centres with at least 20 beds in each. Sources said health staffers from the nearby government-run hospitals will be deputed at the centres to look after patients.
“Of the 149 panchayats in the district, 83 of them already have temporary health centres,” district collector Anupam Saha said.
“We will add more centres in the coming days,” he added.
“The temporary health centres will not only treat covid-19 suspects or patients, but those suffering from other ailments can visit them for checkup. We have taken all necessary precautions,” Saha said.
This apart, there are about 30 government-run health centres in the district. It includes the district headquarters hospital, eight community health centres and 21 primary health centres.
The move assumes significance as more than 4,128 people from outside the state and the country have returned to the district as the entire world went in a lockdown.
“We have asked every returnee to be in home isolation for at least two weeks,” Saha said. A dedicated health team in Paralakhemundi keeps track of their health status, he added.
“Of the 49 people who have returned from abroad, three have completed their 14-day quarantine order. They are in good health,” the collector said.
Saha further said the district administration has decided to send swab samples of the people who came from the foreign countries to the ICMR Bhubaneswar as a precautionary measure.
