Odisha: Youths guard entry to villages

Youths of Thakurgarh and Ranibandha villages in Angul district are allowing people into their villages only after proper investigation to prevent the spread of Covid-19. They have also put up a board, “Covid-19 Awareness. Entry restricted” at the entry to the villages.

ANGUL: Youths of Thakurgarh and Ranibandha villages in Angul district are allowing people into their villages only after proper investigation to prevent the spread of Covid-19. They have also put up a board, “Covid-19 Awareness. Entry restricted” at the entry to the villages.
“A person is allowed into the village only after sanitizing his hands at the check gate built on the outskirts of the village,” said Anin Charan Swain, president of Trinath Youth Union.
The youths are also maintaining a register of those who either want to go out of the village on some urgent work or want to enter the village. Those suspected of violating government guidelines are barred from entering the village.
Pradeep Sahu, member of the association, said this campaign would continue till the end of the lockdown. But people in urban areas continue to be reckless and can be seen moving around in motorcycles.
Angul police have so far registered cases against 36 people and seized 21 motorcycles for violating rules in connection with the lockdown. Collector (Angul) Manoj Kumar Mohanty told TOI, “We have taken steps to protect people and curb the spread of Covid-19. We have appealed to people to stays indoors and come out only for basic necessities.” Currently, 56 people are on home quarantine.
