MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace recalls his travel adventures and reveals that his most memorable meal was 'triangles of toast with anchovies' in Italy
MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace
So which destination is the presenter's favourite?
Here he talks about his most memorable meal - toast in Portofino - why he never travels without Colman's English Mustard - and more...
What do you never travel without?
A jar of Colman’s English Mustard. It really annoys me when other countries say they have mustard and then serve something yellow that looks like mustard but tastes nothing like it.
What’s your earliest holiday memory?
Having sangria poured in my mouth aged six, when on a package holiday in Spain with my mum, auntie and grandmother.
Where is your favourite hotel?
The Belmond Splendido Mare hotel in Portofino, Italy. My wife and I stayed there after dating for three months and it was where we fell in love.
Most memorable meal?
It was in Portofino: triangles of toast with soft unsalted butter, anchovies and a big goblet of crisp white wine.

Favourite place in the UK?
London, and it’s not just because I am a Londoner. Nowhere rivals it. New York is disappointing in contrast.
And for a family getaway?
When I was a single dad with teen kids, I liked going on cruises. There was loads to do and they couldn’t get off — it was perfect.
