TRICHY: The health department on Saturday quarantined three sanitary workers in Ariyalur Government Hospital for having close contact with a Covid-19 positive patient.
Officials said a 25-year-old woman in the Covid-19 isolation of Ariyalur GH was recently tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. Before the test result came, three sanitary workers, including a male worker, had contact with the patient.

Officials said the male sanitary worker had used the mobile phone of the Covid-19 positive patient to use a video-sharing app. As the incident was disclosed during an inquiry post the arrival the test result, the three sanitary workers are kept under watch in the Covid-19 isolation. They will have to be in the ward for 14 days.
“If the workers display Covid-19 symptoms, we will collect their swab for laboratory test,” a senior official said.
Authorities have initiated disciplinary action against the male sanitary worker.
