LUCKNOW: The chief medical superintendent (CMS) of KGMU on Saturday withdrew the proposal to deduct a day's salary of teachers, resident doctors and non-teaching staff to buy masks for health workers deputed for the treatment of suspected and confirmed Covid-19 cases. The proposal was sent to KGMU authorities on Friday.
The proposal was withdrawn after KGMU administration said it had resources to buy the required number of masks and there was no need to deduct the salary, said CMS Prof SN Shankhwar.

KGMU will also provide personal protective equipment kits to the staff treating suspected and confirmed coronavirus cases. TOI had also highlighted how resentment is brewing among the resident doctors of KGMU for shortage of protective kits and work burden as most coronavirus patients are being sent to the medical university.
But it evoked a strong criticism on social media. A section of teachers also objected to it saying it was administration's duty to provide protective kits. Some university officers said the proposal gave the impression that KGMU does not have resources to meet the requirement of its staff.
KGMU employees' association, which had agreed to the proposal on Friday, said on Saturday some members were opposing it as economic burden on them has increased due to lockdown. "Deduction of salary should be done only from those employees who are willing," it said.
