MADURAI: A 54-year-old diabetic, critical with chronic illness, brought to the Covid-19 isolation ward died at the Kanyakumari government medical college hospital on Sunday. His samples have been sent for Covid-19 testing. Meanwhile, samples of all three who died at the same hospital on Saturday with suspected Covid-19 symptoms, came back negative, confirmed health officials.
So far, in Tamil Nadu, only one Covid-19 death, that of a 54-year-old man from
Madurai, has been recorded.
Hospital authorities said the 54-year-old man from Madurai had a history of diabetes and myelofibrosis, a rare bone marrow cancer and was on long term treatment. He had developed cough two weeks ago and was brought in an unconscious state on Sunday to Kanyakumari MCH where he died within two hours of admission. His samples have been sent for testing at Tirunelveli medical college hospital and his body will be kept at the mortuary as per protocol till the results are out.
In an another case, a 27-year-old 34-week pregnant woman who recently returned from Dubai, delivered a girl baby in the Covid-19 isolation ward. The mother is safe, while the baby was born pre-term. Swab samples have been sent for Covid-19 testing for both mother and baby. So far, there have been no Covid-19 positive cases in
Kanyakumari district.
The samples of the two-year-old boy, who died on Saturday, tested negative, confirming that all the three deaths at the isolation ward in Kanyakumari MCH were not due to Covid-19. Late Saturday evening, the results of two persons, the 66-year-old man and 24-year-old man, came back negative and only the child’s results were expected on Sunday.
All three had died of various illnesses. Though until now, six persons have died in the isolation ward at Kanykumari MCH, the results of the five showed negative while one is awaited.
