KALYAN: Several
gaushalas in the city are facing fodder crisis due to the lockdown in Maharashtra. These gaushalas completely depend on their devotees who feed the cattle there.
Due to lockdown the devotees are unable to visit gaushalas, resulting in the crisis.
According to sources, in Thane district there are around 25 gaushala of which some are financially strong and can afford to buy fodder.
However, some are financially very weak and they are mainly dependent on devotees.
According to Omkar Devda, founder president of Leela Purushottam Gaushala Trust, there is huge shortage of fodder at his gaushala and currently he has only two to three days of fodder left. His gaushala has around 600 cows.
"The government should provide fodder to financially weak gaushalas like us," he said adding, "I have informed about the same to government officials and hope they will take some favourable decision."
Similarly another gaushala in Kalyan taluka is facing shortage of fodder. "We have fodder for around four to five days for our 70 cows but are worried about the future", said a representative.
