Karnataka: Total shut down in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday too
MANGALURU: Total shut down will continue in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday too, said district minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
While it will be total shut down on Monday, shops selling essential items will open from 6am to 3pm on Tuesday. The minister requested people not to come out in group to purchase essential goods. "Only one member of a family should come out to buy groceries, vegetables, milk and other essentials.
The licence of merchants will be cancelled if they charge exhorbitantly for essential goods. I have directed the district administration to take action against those who charge more for essential supplies," he said and requested people to inform the district administration (1077) in case of any such instances.
"You have extended support for two days by cooperating with the administration during two days of total shut down in the district. We had to take tough decision to check the spread of coronavirus disease. I request people to maintain social distancing when they go for shopping" the minister said. On distribution of rice and other items through public distribution system, the minister said all fair price shops (FPS) have been directed to distribute two months' (April and May) ration together from April 2. FPSs have been directed to remain open from 7am to 8pm, he added.
The department of religious endowment will make arrangements to supply food for 1,500 homeless people in the district. Food supply will be arranged through Indira Canteens, he said.
