HASSAN: A 58-year-old
man committed
suicide in
Channarayapatna taluk in Hassan district on Sunday morning. The victim had reportedly returned Hassan from Mumbai to celebrate
Ugadi with his parents. He was examined for
Covid-19 infection, and tested negative for the same. However, he was asked to stay
quarantined at home for two weeks. The victim is survived by his wife and two children, all of whom are in Mumbai.
He had arrived by himself to his native village in Channarayapatna, travelling from Mumbai by road. On Sunday morning, he was found hanging at the back of his parents’ home.
Hassan district health officer Dr Sathish said that, on learning about the victim having come to the village from Mumbai, officers in the department had subjected him to a medical test. “The result of the test was returned as negative, and he was directed to stay in quarantine for a fortnight. But he was suffering from many other ailments, and we suspect this might have driven him to take the extreme step,” Dr Sathish said.
